To My Future Black Son

Baby boy , I love you. Before I give you a brief synopsis of what is presently going on in America, I wanted to send you an abundance of energy. In hindsight what will be said to you may seem negative but isn’t out of malice, it is just the facts of the world presently. I can’t wait to watch your mind process problems small and large. I can’t wait to see you become the king you are destined to be but before that happens I need to give you a brief understanding of current issues.

I am writing to you with so much confusion & dismay in my heart regarding the state of this country we call America. It is 2017 and I am terrified to introduce you to a country that was not built with your interest in mind. The irony being that our ancestors created this country but that’s another conversation for the future. The color of your skin is still a problem, regardless of how great you become you will still be a black man in America. Let me clarify, this is not personal. You are a god, nothing will stop you from achieving everything you set your mind on. The process will be a tad bit harder but you will succeed.

It’s atrocious to me that I have to sit and think about the conversations I will be having with my unborn son. As I get my emotions in order, I’m going to give you a glimpse of what has been happening to our people.

Police brutality

2012- Trayvon Martin(17 years of age), Shot and killed by a neighborhood watch man. While holding a bag of skittles and a can of juice, Trayvon was shot by George Zimmerman because he had a hoodie over his head( it was raining) and looked suspicious. George Zimmerman faced no charges.

2014 — Eric Garner was put into a choke hold by police officers for selling cigarettes. With multiple cops abusing him, he stated roughly 11 times he couldn’t breathe. He also died and his killer faced zero charges.

2014 — Michael Brown, shot and killed for walking down the street by police officer. Killer faced no charges.

2014 Was a hell of a year

2014- Laquan Mcdonald / Tamir Rice- One teenager, one child. Laquan was shot 16 times while walking away from the police while Tamir was shot for holding a TOY gun by a police officer. No one was charged

When you grown up I will continue to teach you about the substantial amount of deaths that have plague us currently and in times before your grandparents were born. Also issues that surround a football player by the name of Colin Kaepernick and our current president Donald Trump that you also need to be brought up on, but again that is for another time. I can only have faith that things will change once you are born. I will cherish you and do my best to help you take over the world if that is your intentions. What I ask of you is a continued progression of intellectual property and a understanding of how powerful your roots are. With those two attributes nothing can stop you besides a bullet and that is my only fear.
